Camry headlight auto-off not working

My 2000 Camry (just purchased used) is supposed to turn off the
headlights when ignition is off and driver's door is opened. It
doesn't, and this model doesn't include a warning buzzer. I've read
several posts which suggested a bad door switch. But in this case the
dome light and open-door warning light work as expected, so the switch
must work. What else can I look for?

See if the light control logic is working. Turn off the ignition (with
the headlights on) and apply a ground to the control module pin going to
the door dome light switch. On my '97 Landcruiser, its pin #5, but parts
may have changed over the years or between models. If that turns the
lights off, then the connection between the module and where it ties to
the dome light circuit may be broken. If that doesn't turn off the
headlights, the module may be defective.

Good luck locating components and wire routing without the wiring
diagram.
