Default Selling a car to private party (cashier's check? bank check? need advice)

I am about post an ad to sell my old car to a private party.
My biggest worry is a scam with a cashiers or personal check.
I am certain that most people won't agree to cash ($5000-$6000).
What can I do to ensure that I get a legitimate payment for my vehicle.

What if it is an out-of-town buyer? That happens most of
the time on E-bay. You cannot trust cashiers checks any
more. Maybe a bank wire transfer? That is risky since
they can use your account information to suck your account
dry. Money orders might be just as risky, but you can
normally cash them at a bank with doing a deposit, so maybe
it is safe as long as they give you the cash back? Or would
traveler's checks be better?

Simple - you drive your car, with the buyer, to the buyers bank and get
him/her to buy you a bank cheque (or give you cash IF you can deposit it
in that bank)
