The short answer is NO. Now for the long answer...
Silver Lake is all Sand Dunes which is sanctioned by the State of Michigan DNR. It's the only sand dunes for about 1000 miles that you can drive on, legally ;-) It's closed for the winter, opened from April first to October 31 (it use to be open year-round :-). Very nice place, some Monster hills with sharp peaks on top whipped up by the winds off of Lake Michigan, it's right along the eastern Lake Michigan shoreline (but you can't drive into the water any more). I wrecked my '87 Bronco a few years ago when I crested the top of the tallest hill a little too fast (the locals call it "Test Hill", many 4x4's can't make it up). If you want MUD, then head up Nort', meaning Wisconsin. There are several State and National Parks up 'der, many with impassable mudholes, but almost always with a bypass route. I usually go to Nicolet National Forest, east of Lakewood, Wis. I've camped at McCaslin CampGround, very spartan, although you can rent a trailer. In the winter, I have stayed at a few different local motels, all with excellent food in their restaurants. There are Indian reservations up 'Nort too, all have nice motels, restaurant (although I prefer "local" restaurant food) and a casino (if you like to gamble). -PapaRick -------------------------------------------------------------------- joez wrote: > Theres silver lake sand dunes; Solon, Iowa; The Badlands, In; The > Cliffs Insane Terrain, IL.
