Default Auto windscreen wipers

There seems to be no right way or wrong way to activate my rain sensetive
wipers (on a '98 E39). Just how are they switched on, and off, and what
setting, if any, makes the sensor more or less sensetive to water?

Thanks
Lapchien

If it's the same as mine, it's the first click up from off. But needs to
be re-selected each time the engine is started. Some form of safety issue.

The small sliding switch is meant to do this.

I'm not impressed with it as a system, though. I keep having to over-ride
it, so not much point, really.

Actually - quite easy.

Move the wiper stalk to the first position above off. This enables the
rain-sensitive wiper.. then to get it to work the first time after
starting the car - turn the sensitivity knob which is in the
turnsignal stalk end.

The idea is - that you can leave the wipers in the enabled position,
but unless you tell it to run by changing the sensitivity knob
they won't start, just in case the car goes through a car-wash.

Changing the sensitivity is done with the knob.

I assume you have an owners manual? This is explained in detail
in the manual.
