I appreciate the condolences, but my story just doesn't hold any water.
In fact, there is something downright fishy about it....

In the non-April Fools world, I just got back from Tampa and the only
accident I saw the whole two weeks was a NA Miata that had apparently spun
and crunched its trunk under a guard rail. Two other cars involved.

My April Fools story isn't very exciting, I left the parking lights on
last night, had no jumper cables, had to call for help, delayed my
getting home and into bed by about 2 hours.

I've REALLY got to stop leaving the lights on in that car, it's getting
to be too much of a regular thing..... <sigh>

One of these will stop that from happening again.

$80.00 is a little pricey but I have considered it.
I was able to roll-start my last miata the times that I drained the
battery, and I haven't drained the battery in almost 3 years now, but I
would still get one if I had an automatic and I may get one anyway.

A buzzer may also help, assuming that it goes off when the parking
lights are left on. I remove the buzzers that are there and can't see
myself installing one. This will also stop the battery drain no matter
what is causing it.

With about $5 worth of parts you can add a "lights on buzzer"
which ought to do trick as well.

Of course the buzzer only helps if the problem is the
headlights/parking lights...

Of course the buzzer only helps if you can hear it. I have the
original beeper thingy <- technical term) but if I'm out of the car I
don't hear it and usually if I'm in the car I barely hear it, it's
pretty wimpy. Maybe I need a new or different beeper thingy?

As far as I know, the NA miatas did not ever come with a lights-on
reminder buzzer, only one for the door and one for the seatbelt.
Dunno about the NB or NC.

The light buzzer is a relatively common thing for people to add, you can
spend a few bucks for parts or get one ready to plug in for $12.95 from
the same place that sells the priority start for the battery.

I have had both the $12.00 buzzer (less than $3.00 at Radio Shack) and the
$80 priority start. The buzzer has been great, I think I have it ten
years now. The priority start has left me stranded a few times, and buying
a new battery I did not need, because the electronics went bad.

Your guess which one I would recommend.

It may also disconnect the battery while you are driving it.
