Default High idle speed

Hi,

My friend's car(automatic) recently has a high idle spped(2000rpm) and
engine whines when in idle state and when she push the brake pedal.
Also, there are slight thrust feeling when she change shift to reverse.

What's the problem about this car? Is it safe to drive such car(No
highway driving needed)? Is there any easy step we can check before
send it to the shop.

Thanks

Rick

For one thing, if it is auto trans it will lunge suddenly when you put
it into gear. If manual, similar scenario MAY occur although more
controllable by driver than automatic. s
