Announcing RAMJAW.org
Announcing RAMJAW.org (that stands for Rec.Autos.Makers.Jeep+Willys)
a web site dedicated to the discussion of all things Jeep, and some talk around the campfire about everything else. The purpose of this site is to provide a gathering place for Jeepers to gather, talk, swap stories, ask questions, and offer advice. And, is an alternative to Usenet newsgroup of the same name. I've been lurking here in the ramjaw group for about 10 years and have watched with sadness its slow slide into a group where the spam and troll posts far outnumber anything with content. RAMJAW.org is not a commercial site, but a place for real folks to hang out without the trolls and mean spirited personal attacks. I am not moderating the site, but offensive posts will be deleted and repeat offenders will be banned. So come on over and make yourself comfortable. Post your questions, opinions, stories, and pictures, invite your friends and enjoy. Dean |

I prefer the free speech, even if I have to put up with the knuckleheads.
And who says what is an "offensive post"? I'll bet it's just something that Dean doesn't like. Maybe he's a Republican, or a Communist, or a Right-to-Lifer. Mike with his posting the Charter and Bill with his reporting abuse to ISP's are all the moderators I need, thank you. Cheers, Earle "Dave Milne" > wrote in message . .. > Not looking good so far. I don't think it will replace ramjaw - it will always be yet another jeep
forum. How well is takes off is dependent on how much effort he puts into it. Last time I looked there wasn't a single thread started, not even by him. So, I looked, and left. After I got my filters working nicely and the lack of the 'bot dumping
crud entries, this has settled into about the same NG it always was. A quick review shows I'm gettin about about 90% valid, Jeep related entries. The unfiltered version would sure scare off the newbies though. Good idea, let's hope it flies. I rather like the idea of a moderated group
now, the way things are going. "ramjaw.org" > wrote in message oups.com... > That's fixed now, sorry. > > > > On Oct 14, 2:22 am, "Dave Milne" > > wrote: >> Not looking good so far. I belong to other moderated forums that have helped me a learn lot. And I may have helped a few folks in those forums. Maybe this new forum will grow into place us jeepers can go to learn and help others. I will always read/lurk/post in this usenet group. I do like usenet and I am curious on how long the stupidity will go on here. This was also the first Jeep group of any kind I found and I enjoy reading some of the posts here. Been reading/posting/lurking here for over 5 years now. |

RAMJAW.org isn't about moderation, there will be plenty of knuckleheads for you to banter with. > And who says what is an "offensive post"? I'll bet it's just something that > Dean doesn't like. I "moderate" several other forums and to this day I have never removed a post. That does not mean I have agreed with every post. I think most people would agree with my idea of an offensive post in a Jeep forum, spam, porn, or totally off topic. (but that last one would just be moved to the right section when I get around to it.) > Maybe he's a Republican, or a Communist, or a Right-to-Lifer. Well I can see the groups that Earle doesn't like. <lol> Personally I don't get involved with political talk, so I couldn't say what I am. > Mike with his posting the Charter Mike's charter posting shows that someone still cares about this group and is a good thing IMO. But this is Usenet and there are technical limitations to what it can do. > and Bill with his reporting abuse to ISP's Like I said this is Usenet. Bill can report to ISP's till the cows come home, and a big lot of nothing has been accomplished. Maybe some enjoy continuously fiddling with kill files. For all I know some might actually enjoy Bill and the boys. RAMJAW.org isn't for them, but If you want to talk about Jeeps in a friendly forum then it is. > are all the moderators I need, thank you. RAMJAW.org isn't about moderation its about Jeeps, and other things around the campfire. Its about using more current web technology to post pictures along with the content, its about having a place to talk about non-jeep related topics with friends. If you think I'm going to sit around and moderate this forum you will be VERY disappointed. I enjoy a busy life of which this is only a part. I pay for the domain, hosting, and development out of my pocket. I have gotten way more value from the group over the years than I could possibly give back in knowledge, so its my way of giving back. This maybe just another Jeep forum, but it is different. The other forums are commercial, and I don't have a problem with that, but when I get advertised to at every turn I get tired and leave. RAMJAW.org isn't commercial, it has been founded by a guy that has been lurking here for a long time. (Oh and the google ads are up as a service. If by some miracle they actually do more than cover the costs the extra will be donated to a deserving charity, which the members will choose.) So come-on over there won't be any content until you start posting it <lol> Dean |

Dave you are absolutely right, I make a much better lurker than
poster. <lol> I envy guys that seem to post long thoughtful replies at a moments notice. It takes me a long time to post. But that said what would you suggest? I could make a sock puppet and have a conversation with myself, but isn't that part of the problem over here? <lol> But regardless of what happens you are the first person to register and I thank you for that.
