Erratic idling / Near Stalling and Acceleration issues
Hi,
I have a 1995 Dodge Stratus ES, its a 2.0L 4 Cyl. Engine and is a 5-speed manual. Lately the car has been running poorly. When sitting at a light or anywhere idling, the RPM's jump from 500 to 1000 back and forth. Obviously when it gets as low as 500, the car starts to shake and feel like its going to stall. i havent actually stalled yet, but to prevent the embarrasment i have been keeping a little pressure on the gas pedal to prevent it. Also, if i am trying to accelerate is very slow and likes to "jump" especially in the higher gears. My friend (he isnt a mechanic but he does know more than me about cars) claimed my first check should be the spark plugs and spark plug wires. he claims if one or the other is faulty it could cause misfiring and hence the erratic idling / acceleration issues. does this sound right? i realize i should replace both of these anyways, but if anyone here knows more you might be able to save me the 60 bucks for both. Thanks in advance |
