gas

My 70 was running well. I filled with gas and now it stop running,
sounds like it's starving for gas. I have never had a full tank
before. Could this be a prob.

Try changing your fuel filter (if it is a paper element one). If you got
some gas with water in it... the water gets absorbed into the paper and
keeps the fuel from flowing well. That is the easiest first thing to try
anyway. Just be careful to not do the D.S. thing I did a few years ago...
run the engine, stop the engine, disconnect the fuel line while kneeling
down right at engine level.... forgetting that the gas was pressureized -
get gas splashed into my eyes....... ((give it time to depressurize first))

If you DO this.... only do 1/2 of what I did or you will regret it.....
run and wash your eyes with water... (standing in a shower with eyes mainly
closed but shower splashing into eyes should be effective too) BUT DO NOT
get the "bright idea" that the gas/oil will not wash out well, so you should
get some dishwashing liquid to help get rid of the gas......... STUPID! I
ended up having to get my eyes "irrigated" for 1/2 hr my medical
personnel.... because of the dishwashing liquid.

wear safety glasses and cover area with a cloth rag before removing hose.
KWW is telling you use common sense and be careful! ;-)

I know one person who installed diesel fuel in his Beetle and he wondered
why it stopped running. 8^)

Your '70 has a mesh screen in the tank outlet fitting.
It's possible (after 37 years) that the tank has a layer of goop
(tech term) at the bottom. And that the fillup sloshed that goop
to cover the mesh.

And easy way to check is to take out the fuel gauge sender on top
of the tank. DISCONNECT the battery first! Note how the sender bits
come out so you can put them back. With a flashlight you can peek
into the tank.

Check everything else before this.
