Hi group
I've got a 2004 GTV 3.2 24v which has done 16,000 miles - I know
it's a waste - and yesterday it sailed through its MOT + annual
service. The dealer says I need a cambelt change because of its age
but despite the low mileage. What do you guys say ?
Thnks Dave

If it's not been due since new, it needs doing now.

If there's no evidence of one in the last 4 years, I'd do it....
yesterday.

I believe the paranoid do them on 3 years / 36k, with most going for 4
years / 48k miles, despite the handbook saying 5 years / 60k miles.

To echo the rest: Hell yes, change it ASAP. ANd water pump, and idlers
and tensioners.

Nonsense..a 6 year old cam belt is entirely safe as long as your
wallet is needing to shed several thousand pounds and you don't need
to rely on the car or the car's only worth its scrap value and you
don't need to rely on it! ;-)

Anyway, isn't it *easier* to replace the engine than do the belts on
those things anyway..again, assuming money was no object..?

With my luck and finances, I'd be too scared to turn that engine over
on the starter let alone drive it to a garage.. YMMV

Or you just don't run the car. Which has suddenly made me think of the
Sprint and the 116. Better not start them again, really.

Heh. There's not a load of space, it must be said

Never get a 12v V6 then. They can jump teeth if you let it roll
backwards in gear......
