Projectors : How Many Using? Are the the Future?
Was lurking around Race Sim' s Forum about Hardware and saw J_Bell #412's
PVC sled setup (very cool by the way). Besides the sled the thing that caught my eye was the projector he was using. I then remembered Collin Waldroff, the guy who runs F1 Sim Links site, once had pictures of his rig and it too had a projector. So I started wondering. How widespread is projector use in the sim community? It seems if done right it would be much more immersive than any monitor (or even three). Is this the way of the future? They seem very expensive now. $900 Cdn and up. Are they getting better and cheaper? $900.00 ones say 800x600 SVGA. Does that mean that's their highest resolution? Because then you're looking at least $2500 for something that can push 1024x768. And is that even sufficient when the image is blown up so big? Can you change field of view (or what ever the proper term is) in the sims so that you can see a 8 feet image but not have a 5 feet wide steering wheel or a three feet wide tach? Do some have tuners, or can you hook them up to a tuner and use the same projector as a TV? Just some things I've been wondering and would like people's feed back. I don't even have the $900.00 for a cheapy right now, or the space to put it but it's always good to think of the future. Thanks Rudeboy |
