Default 98 Mazda 1.5L ECU/PCM Reset

Having just installed a 1.5L into a Protege (5 speed manual) is it wise and
even possible to reset the ECU/PCM so it has to "relearn" the engine. If
so, how do you do it?
Many thanks, Bill

Dunno about Proteges, but Miata ECUs do not have a "learn" capability.
Resetting them merely erases any stored error codes. FWIW, the Miata
procedure is to disconnect the battery, then hold the brake pedal down
for 10 seconds. Or maybe it's 30 seconds. Note: this also triggers the
anti-theft function in the radio, so have your code handy, clear it
first, or know how to reset it.
