What is viatology?
If you're new to these newsgroups, odds are you've come across the
term 'viatology'. So what is it? Viatology is simply the scientific study of roads. To help increase the understanding of roads, in terms of empirical measure, one conducts field research to show similarities and contrasts between the world's roads. While the term is just a few years old, viatology has been practised for several hundred years. Some examples of viatology include the discovery of road-number patterns, types of pavement, benefits of one motorway interchange versus another, and construction impacts on existing thoroughfares. The fundamentals of viatology rest on the scientific method, which is discussed well he http://physics.ucr.edu/~wudka/Physic...00000000000000 It's important to note that viatology is not related to people re- posting newspaper articles about roads. While this increases short- term awareness of the media's own interests and objectives, viatology employs a scientific basis that can be easily understood from generation to the next. Not to mention, independent scientific studies effectively increase the breadth of viatology research by preventing the bottleneck of information distribution. For more information on viatology, including its etymology and foreign translations thereof, please visit http://wwtl.info/#viatology.html . (If you use a smartphone or older computer, please use this link instead: http://wwtl.info/viatology.html) With your contributions to viatology, this field may one day be cemented in scholastic academia and scientific research foundations. To the future! Meanwhile that page offers some useful insight into Rodgers' approach to things: 1. Cranks overestimate their own knowledge and ability, and underestimate that of acknowledged experts. 2. Cranks insist that their alleged discoveries are urgently important. 3. Cranks rarely if ever acknowledge any error, no matter how trivial. 4. Cranks love to talk about their own beliefs, often in inappropriate social situations, but they tend to be bad listeners, and often appear to be uninterested in anyone else's experience or opinions. Also Cranks 1. exhibit a marked lack of technical ability, 2. misunderstand or fail to use standard notation and terminology, 3. ignore fine distinctions which are essential to correctly understanding mainstream belief. That really does remind me of someone keen on posting about "viatrollogy". |
