Default OT (or not!): It's alive!

Today, I got my new toy started. I've been waiting on the availability
of my knowledgeable neighbour, Bob Williams, to help me through the
process of waking a Formula Ford motor after a long sleep, and we
finally arranged a time and place (his heated space next to my currently
unheated one), and we went through all the necessary steps.

Checking the gas (smelled bad, had fragments of anti-slosh foam in it;
replace with jerry can).

Check the plugs for the correct gap.

Pre-oil the engine (with a pressurized can via the pressure sending
port) to get dry metal parts lubricated before the oil pump can take
over.

Turn it over, look for gas in the carburetor throats...

....suffice it to say that there were a lot of little things to look at.

But after a few false starts (if you'll pardon the pun), it fired right
up...

....and promptly started pumping oil out of the top of oil tank in the
bellhousing. It seems I wasn't as thorough in draining the engine of oil
as I'd thought.*

But that was just a mess to clean. The bottom line is that the car's
heart is now beating again. Nothing leaks, nothing sounds wrong. It
appears to be exactly as advertised.

There's still lots to do before spring, but there's now some inspiration
available, too: if I'm getting a little down about things, I can always
jump in, fire it up, and hear it rev. :-)

Video will follow for those who are interested.

I guess I'll let him off the hook
