Default 89 5.0 mod prob, take your pic!

89 GT 5.0 5 spd
Just installed Trick Flow heads and cam. BBK SSI intake, fuel
regulator,cold air intake,
Pro-M Racing MAF, Ford Racing 24lb fuel injectors, yes ordered MAF to
match. Just got her
together, she fired right up for timing, but wouldnt idle, started her
2-3 times, kept
her going with the pedal, wouldnt idle, timed at 10 TDC or whatever
factory is.
Vacuum is fine. The thing is she started right up but then after a
couple times wont
start at all. Also the BBkSSI fuel crossover tube is leaking. So gotta
tear that appart
and change to try and fix the leak. But the question is why wont she
start again? I heard
that a Idle Air Control spacer will help it idle but also read that a
ford mechanic told
someone they are a gimmic and dont do anything. Since she started and
ran, timing should
be within limits but it just wont fire up again. She could just be
flooded. Gotta fix the fuel leak first too though.
I did a lot of mods for sure so could be a tough trouble shoot. Any
ideas?
Thanks!

After all the research I decided I liked the BBK better. I took a
chance on the fuel leak problem and lost. The crossover tube is
leaking. But with the start problem I might just be F-d. I could be
taking my engine apart and putting it back together all summer before
I get it running. Heres mo

So I just got my car all back together. Trick flow heads, cam, roller
timing set. It started right up but couldnt get it to idle. Then it
just wouldnt start at all. So the timing should be close enuf at least
to get it going.

First off the timing set that trick flow sends requires to counter
sink new screw into your stock cam thrust plate. So had to go to a
machine shop just to get that done. Also Theres a ring that goes in
between the timing gear and the block. Im hoping that its not the
reason it wont run, maybe its to tight on the cam or something.

So I know vacuum is fine and timing is pretty much ok, but it just
wont start now. Anyone have any ideas of what I can try?

Im praying I dont end up having to take the engine apart 3 times just
trying to figure out the problem.

You will need to systematically check the fuel, ignition and timing.
Then try and pull the codes from the computer. The fact is this could
be darn near anything and might be something real simple or real
complex. It could be so many different things that the only way to deal
with it is being systematic and logical.

make up a list of things to check and check them twice or three times.
firing order, check the wire are right, check the plugs etc
is the fuel regulator adjustable? what is the preset and can you get to it?
recheck the wiring,
check timing marks etc
not sure what the air idle control spacer is, a thicker gasket? if so should
not do anything
reset computer by taking off battery,

Best of luck- these cars are darn near bulletproof.

I put a KB blower on mine (replaces top manifold on a 93 5.0) and when I
first started it up it made, made one hell of a big nasty noise, had that oh
**** feeling bigtime, had no idea how to set the FMU, I had hosed down the
radiator from the outside and it was loaded up with water, and blew all that
back, and I had left a wrench on the engine, BUT it smoothed out and ran
fine.
