85 Blazer 2.8 to 5.0 conversion - posible?

I have an 85 Blazer with a 2.8 V-6 in it. I live in a city with a lot
of hills, so this setup isn't working for me right now. I've heard of
Blazers with a 305 in them. I don't know much about cars, so I was
wondering if a 305 would fit in there, if I'd need to change a bunch
of stuff with my tranny around or what. It's a 4x4 so... if you have
any suggestions, please enlighten me

Your "S" blazer never ever had a V8 as an option, the 4.3 was as big
as it ever got. the "K5" Full size blazer (which became the
Tahoe/Yukon in '95) could be had with a 4.3 V6, 305 V8, or a 350 V8.
I'm not sure but I think in some years between '73 and '91 a 400SB
and a big block was offered.

however..... TONS of people have dropped 350's into their S-trucks.
Kits are readily available to do this swap. If you're going to do a
v8 swap, don't bother with a 305 as the vastly superior 350 is
dimensionally identical on the outside.
you'll also have to ditch your transmission as the 2.8 uses the 60
degree bellhousing and the 4.3 and v8's use the 90 degree bellhousing
pattern.

The 3.4L v6 would be a direct swap and have nearly as much horsepower
as most 305's. So, if you are set on NOT doing a 350 swap and you
don't want to change out anything on your truck that has gears in it
(too weak for v8 power anyway), that would be a great swap.

They sell a manual that has everything you'll need to successfully do
the swap. A 305/350 will definitely fit and can be smog legal, but
does require some modifications that are spelled out in the manual.
If you are serious about doing the swap, this will be money well
spent.
