99 center console issue

The first year of the NB they totally blew it on the center console design
(they got allot right;-) the cup holder is worthless and you have to have
the console open (in the way of the passenger) to use it. They also put the
release so far back, you have to be a contortionist to get to it. Problem
is, I'm not sure if they fixed it right away (2000) or if it took them a
couple years.

Anyone know?

They never "fixed" it. Each console style has it's own problems.
If your interior is Black, you may be able to get a later console to work.
The light colored consoles have color changes that would not match the 99
tan.

Well, luckily my interior is Black (the fastest interior color) but what
year / years are considered the better / best center consoles?
