When I bought my 156 about 6 months ago the car dealer must have disconnected the battery when they prepped the car before I collected it. When I came to use the radio all I got on the display was "CODE" It was fixed by a local car audio guy who just set it up with a new code. The dealer paid so I don't know the cost. If you contact a local car audio specialist I'm sure they can do it. You'll probably get more joy from a small independent rather than somewhere like Halfords who may claim that they're not supposed to do it. Mike |

This seems pretty odd, to put it mildly - every time one disconnects the battery one then has to go to an audio dealer? The only radio with a code that I had came with instructions for setting the code (I don't recall the details now, as it was several years ago, but I think it had something like the ten-digit emergency code in mobile telephones.) I did read once that putting code-based radios in a freezer for a few hours caused the code to reset to 0000. I make however absolutely no claims as to the accuracy of this information. -- Stephen Poley |

Then the radio can be re-set any time that it's been disconnected. -- PeterMcC If you feel that any of the above is incorrect, inappropriate or offensive in any way, please ignore it and accept my apologies. |

Well, that's quite normal.
The code should have been supplied with the car like the key code. At least the supplying dealer should have the code readily available. Any other official dealer will be able to get the code through the Allfa service organisation. You should have to "prove" to them that you are the official owner (and it's not a stolen car) -- Ciao from The Netherlands alfistagj (aka Gert-Jan) GT 2.0 JTS (2005) Montreal 2.6V8 (1428700 - 1973/4) "Richard" > schreef in bericht ... > Had to take the battery of my 2000 X 156 and on reconnection radio is > asking for the code. I bought a gadget from Halfords which you plug into the cigar lighter, you
can remove your battery without losing the code. The battery company I go to have one for fitting new batteries. Bill Jackson |

We don't get key codes in UK. But yuo should have a four digit code on a
card for the radio. If not, your dealer will (for a small fee) get you the code, which usually involves sending a fax with you details to the manufacturer. You will probably need your Chassis/Vin number and the radio serial no. I see a small pile of them in my dealers every time I go there! Wouldn't really fancy it on any modern car; I believe the standby current (with everything switched off) can be pretty fierce. Think those devices use a 9v battery (PP3), can't see it lasting very long! dom. |

Dom. The gadget has been in use for six years or so on my Alfa 146ti and
I've had no trouble, I suppose in that time it may have been used up to ten times. Theres no mention about standby current in the instructions. Bill Jackson |

Should I be worried for my 147? :-o dom. |
