Default Golf 1.6 FSI cutting out ??

I have a VW Golf 1.6FSI, brand new. When it is started the engine just
dies after a few seconds (whether reverse or forward, cold or warm
starts). On accelerating it cuts out. When re-started it seems okay (as
if the key resets something). It is not cutting out due to revs or
anything, could it be the immobiliser system ??

We have had the car back to the garage and they have done the diagnostic
tests and say they cannot find anything, everything says normal.

The diagnostic test surely would need to be done as it cuts out, but
that is impractical as i could be anywhere when that happens !.

Has anyone any ideas here ? or experiences of similar ?

Cheers
Andrew

Could be.

Has the battery ever been replaced or run flat?

First, make sure that you have any radio lock codes.
Then disconnect both battery terminals at the battery and connect
the batter yleads to each other NOT THE BATTERY.
Hold them for a couple of seconds which'll discharge any stored
charge in the various computers infesting the car.

Then disconnect the battery cable from each other and back onto the
battery. No short-circuits please!

Any faults thrown up should be cleared using a diagnostic tool soon
after the battery is reconnected.

If the problem persists, then there's probably a "read coil" problem
with the immobiliser. The coil is what "connects" the chip in the
key to the immobiliser.

Such a fault should really be showing up in the diagnostics but has
been known not to.

I have a vague recollection of this being a recall issue; but don't
hold me to that!
