Default 57 DeSoto Diplomat

Max:
Am I correct in assuming that the 57 DeSoto Diplomat was a Canadian
version ?
Looks like 57 Plymouth fin on the rear.
From what I remember the Desoto had a more sweeping longer fin.
ANyway... great pix

Default 57 DeSoto Diplomat

Hi, The Diplomat was based on the Plymouth and originated in the Canadian
Chrysler plant but wasn't sold in Canada. It was exported and later
assembled locally from CKD kits in Europe, England, South Africa, Australia,
and New Zealand. Just like the Dodge Kingsway which was also intended for
those markets, the DeSoto had Plymouth bodies and engines and from the rear
especially it was hard to tell it from a Plymouth. But since Plymouths
weren't exported to those markets in those days, there was no conflict. (It
would have been interesting to see how they would have pronounced "Plymouth"
in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and so on where there is no "th" sound
in the language.) Maybe that's why DeSoto was favoured, since it's easy to
pronounce in all those languages?
