Default Civic wiper problem????

99 Civic EX, 5 speed, 80,000 miles.
The wipers started acting up yesterday and they would not shut off. Now they
stop whereever they are when I turn the switch off.

Any help in diagnosing this would be great.

Thanks for any help

Steve

Looking at the schematic, the switch that controls the 'park' spot is
inside the motor assembly (at least on my '97 CR-V). Mine does it worst
in winter, but even did it the other day. Use the diagrams at
www.slhondaparts to see how the plastic (windshield) cowl comes off,
then clean up the contacts inside the wiper motor, or swap it out with a
low-miler from the wreckers. You may need to replace a few of the
plastic plugs since you might snap a few getting them out (if they are
like the CR-V).

there's a control box that handles things like this, and the various
bleeps, delay wipe, etc. there's a wiring issue or the box is
defective. get the shop manual [try online sources from tegger.com] and
follow the diagnostic flow chart.

btw, regarding other posts, yes, the motor has a "park" mechanism in it,
but it's controlled by the above mentioned box. check this first, then
look at the motor.
