Default MPG

OK I am officially impressed...

I have a 2002 2.0JTS 156. I didn't buy the car for its fuel consumption,
more for the 165 horses, although consumption and power is advertised as
improved over the 2.0TS variant.

After 4 years, I thought I would see what the car could do... 330 miles down
the UK last Sunday afternoon/evening. Motorway for 30 miles, then around 40
miles of 'normal' national limit, windy roads (A701 beeftub, past Moffat).
Then take A66 from M6 to A1, then the rest of the 330 miles were motorway. I
kept the speedo as near to 60 as possible for the whole journey except
through the roadworks and queues on the A66, where I kept the revs in
leanburn. Car managed 49.5 mpg. Seriously surprised me!

Came home on a week night in bad weather and traffic jams for the first 2
hours, then 80mph for 3 hours, then 4 miles of windy country roads, and got
37.x, but saved an hour and a half!
