Default 2004 Mustang Oil Filter

Hi all,

I just took my Mustang to a local shop for a oil & filter change. It's the
3.9 liter V6 model. The correct Ford filter is a FL 400S. The shop put on
a number SL 20195 filter non Ford. I can seem to find any information on
this filter or a cross reference chart to make sure its the right filter.
This summer a had a back problem & I let one of the local chain stores here
change the oil on my Chevy Blazer and 2 months later the filter blew out on
the road, I also lost the motor due to the fact that they put the wrong
filter on the truck. I get a little nervous dealing with any one now until
I'm sure they know their stuff. Any one know if this is the right filter
or know a good cross reference site? Thanks for reading my post.

A prime example of why I never take any of our vehicles to any shop for
anything. Ever.

Doing it yourself lets you choose th ebest oils, best filters, best
parts etc... you KNOW what goes in the car, and how the work was
performed, and you KNOW you won't try to charge yourself for work that
was not done.

I hate repair shops, and dealerships are no better.

I agree with you completely but right now I'm still having a back problem &
I can't on the creeper to do the job myself. Don't ever get old my friend.

I'm 35 and feeling it lurking around the corner..

Maybe find a friendly DIY car guy near you? Pay him rather than a shop.
You could probably sit there and share some stories while he works on
your car. If you pay in alcoholic beverages, pay *after* the job is done

PowerFlow. Never heard of it.

According to the Advance Auto Parts website, these are interchangeable:
PowerFlow=SL20195
Pennzoil=PZ19
Advance Auto Parts=AA3600
Motorcraft = FL400S

Are you sure it isn't PL20195 (Purolator PureOne) or plain L20195 (Purolater
Premium Plus)? Both of these are FL 400S equivalents (the PureOne being the
more expensive / better). It could also be a ProLine filter (a chaeaper
version built by Purolator for a private label brand name).
