The national average is still $2.50 and that's about double what it was 5 years ago. |

Actually, it's 2.38 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8533441/ Local taxes are not Bush's fault. Environuts should be happy with a higher price of gas. |

In my parts of North Carolina the gas prices are still decreasing (despite much higher taxes than the national average). lowest I've seen is $2.09 (Elizabeth City, NC). In the Raleigh area, $2.29 seems to be the lowest, but I have not checked in a couple of days and it seems to be dropping quickly in the area. I expect the prices to stop falling and possibly increase slightly in advance of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, but after that, they should fall again.I would not be surprised to gas prices back below $2.00 in January. If gas goes back to $1.80 then SUVs will be the rage again. Some people think the govt needs to step in and raise or lower gas taxes to keep gas prices at a certain level say $2.50. |

But they have amazing train systems and public transit and people actually live close enough to their workplaces, shops, and grocery stores to (gasp) walk. Consequently, they're all in much better physical shape. Oh, and the car I drove got 50 miles/gallon (approximately). All in all, seems like the way America needs to go. We'd all be a lot better off for it. |

I saw $1.989 Sunday in GA when I was headed to the game.
