Default Return of the Trunk Monkey

~

Marketing agency R/West's latest two television commercials featuring
the "trunk monkey" will start airing soon.

Portland-based R/West has parlayed the series of comedic ads, originally
conceived for local client Suburban Auto Group, into a lucrative
syndication business as other dealerships nationwide have licensed the
commercials.

The two new spots portray the trunk monkey, originally billed as the
"ultimate accessory" for new vehicles, receiving a promotion to the
dealership's sales team. They depict the monkey's (actually a
chimpanzee) encounters with customers on the car lot, at the parts
counter and behind the loan desk, where he proves an easy mark for
credit approval. In the second spot, the monkey gets demoted.

The first spots in the ongoing campaign aired in 2003. The eight ads
produced to date have won two Northwest Regional Emmy Awards and spawned
a line of merchandise.

Limbo Films, a Portland film production company involved in previous
segments of the ad series, produced the two new installments.

Limbo said the new spots should soon be available for viewing online at
trunkmonkeyad.com and on YouTube.
