Default Traffic Ticket in Texas & Defensive Driving

This is my first ticket. I've heard that I can take defensive driving
to keep the ticket off my driving record, but what about the ticket
cost - $140 !!! Do I pay the ticket or is there some reduction in cost
if I take defensive driving?

It's up to the judge - last time I did Defensive Driving in Texas, I
had to pay some fees, order my driving record from the state to show
the court, go 6 months without any other tickets and get a notarized
affidavit stating that I hadn't gotten any other tickets during that
time.

If the OP takes advantage of the option to take defensive driving,
then they won't pay the fine at all. There will be a few fees to
pay, but even with the cost of the class, it will be much less than
$140.
