Yep. It was part of a cunning plan to deliver *full* engine power for
overtaking. I could never tell myself but it the compressor is
disengaged on, as you say, FULL hard on the mat! Alfas are loaded with
cunning plans..

The reason for that is that it's a clever variable venturi turbo. This
allows the ecu to control boost pressure depending on engine speed and
load rather than just due to exhaust pressure (to a certain degree).
Just revving the engine won't put much load on so the turbo won't get
to deliver its maximum charge.

If you go flat on the accelerator, the rule book is often thrown away
by car engines and they will care little for perfect fuel/air ratios
and emissions. They'll just attempt to max out as best they can.

Loose nut holding the steering wheel?

It'll be the hose between the turbo and the airbox, if it's anything like my
Mondeo 2.2TDCi that had very similar symptoms.

Tiz - and on order from Stoneacre for the princely sum of £17-10/-
'Should be here on Wednesday'

The suggested temp fix of duct tape fails, as the split is at the turbo end, near
to the zorst, gets all hot and guey.

Large motorcycle puncture repair patch will be tried when it cools down.

One more question.

HTF do you get the hose clips off?

They look to be a sort of ******* off-spring of a tie-wrap
and a jubly clip, with a large metal lump with a hole
through it, but not where the joint is.

If they are what I think they are you effectively twist. And you'll
probably need the special pliers to get the buggers back on
