I think this is fine, except I have one concern - over reaction if the
accident rate does go up on these roads. I am afraid if there is a dramatic
increase in the accident and/or death rate on these isolated roads, the
safety Nazis will use this as a rallying point to demand lower speed limits
on all roads.

This is just speculation, but I do not think that that will happen.
However, if statistics come out that could in any way show increased
death or accidents (i.e. total accidents or deaths go up even with an
increase in VMT) I imagine that someone will try to spin this to
pressure the state to lower the speed limits. I sincerely hope that
this does not happen, however, history shows... I am guessing that
anyone reading this who lives in TX ought to be thinking already about
that letter they're going to write to their representative to counter
the misinformation that various parties will no doubt try to put
forward (again, pure speculation, but the names IIHS and AAA come to
mind.)

Heh... I replied before I even RTFA, looks like it's started already.
I hate being right sometimes.

Uhhh...

You'll need to cite the post where Jaybird opined that any velocity was
"extremely unsafe".

Or, shut the **** up.

"DOH"!

He insisted that ticketing drivers for speeding was justified on the
basis of traffic safety.

Well changing the limit doesn't change the reality on the highway...

That's kinda why I ignored that post. Alan has the habit of twisting
peoples' meaning.

I just searched for some, but didn't see any. I'm sure that they'll start
popping up now that they unveiled them over the weekend. I'll keep looking.
