Maybe the needle valve in the carb is leaking, and allowing too much
fuel to enter the fuel bowl. That would flood the carb, and feed a
stream of raw gasoline into the intake manifold, choking the engine.
Does this sound possible?

BTW I'm in the Orlando area. if you ever break down near here... ask for
