Default 90 XJ cps bad so soon?

Hmm, the cherokee wont crank up anymore...

I checked the resistance of the cps like the haynes manual said and it was
no where near 200 +- 75 or whatever it is supposed to be (manual is in
garage right now). 6 Megaohms from what my digi. multitester said.

Could a heating problem I had not too long ago have worn it out that fast?
I installed it around March if I remember correctly.

Doh, forgot to add: It has new plugs, wires, distributor, coil, ignition
control module, and even a new spiffy ground strap twice the size of the old
one.
