Looking to buy a 2007 335i Convertible..
I test drove one of these at my dealer and was pretty much ready to buy when
he told me it was an 8 week wait... Not sure I can wait that long.. I don't mind flying somewhere and driving home (Santa Barbara, CA) especially if I can save a few bucks.. Wouldn't be bad if it had a few miles on it and was below MSRP which seems to be what my local dealers want + the 8 week wait. Looking for NAV, Sports Package, 6 speed automatic and a few other mods.. Is there a secret I don't know about or is this just a reality for this make\model?? Many Thanks, jcp |

Looking to buy a 2007 335i Convertible..
You can shop the other dealers within the mileage you are willing to drive
and see if they have the color and options you want. Normally, Dealer Stock is going to be package deals that the factory puts together according to Best Guess estimates of what the customers are going to want. If you want these items, the car should be relatively easy to find. But, if you are wanting an option that is not part of the "best guess package", then you have to wait for a build sheet to wind its way through the system and spit your car out the other end ... I had an opportunity to read Motor Trend yesterday, and it had an ad for the 335i convertible. It was the ad where they talk about building the car from the ground up insted of the top down. The first impression I got from the ad was a positive one. The only thing that gives me pause is the twin turbo. I still remember turbo problems from cars built in the '80s. Surely they have gotten those troubles worked out by now, but my driving style does not demand a turbo, I'd be perfectly happy with the 3.5L inline 6 that was naturally aspired. Turbochargers are very reliable these days. I have owned 5 different SAABs with turbos and none have had the slightest issue with it. Until you've owned a car with forced intake, you don't really know whether you "need" it or not. What a turbo can do (if properly designed) is provide the power of a 4 liter normally aspirated car, but in a smaller 2 liter package, which also provides the advantage of the fuel economy of a non-turbocharged 2 liter car. My current 2003 SAAB 9-3 Vector has the High Output Turbo 2.0 liter engine, lots of power on tap and gets a steady 32+ mpg on the highway at 75 mph. I kind of like it, especially now with gasoline prices on the rise. -- -Fred W |

If I could get the 335 with normal aspiration, I'd be thrilled to death. Crap, I drive a 110hp E36 with the M50 motor, and it has got all that I need. I'll admit, there are times that I wish it had more, but the vast majority of those times would be accomodated with naturally aspired motor that was half again larger than the one I have. |
