I now understand the appeal of pickup trucks
In article <2%eaf.534830$xm3.325046@attbi_s21>, says...
>Yes, a full size pickup truck would make a great city vehicle. not really. They suck up a lot of gas. You will pass up a lot of parking spots looking for one to fit in. Many pedestrians will treat the bed like a garbage bin and toss stuff in there. ----------------- Alex |

Same reason they chop the roof on cars...

The six cylinder is rated 202hp / 260 ft lb vs 231 hp / 293 ft lb for the 4.6L V8 and 300 hp / 365 ft lb for th e5.4L V-8. The 6 cylinder is not a popular option, so it makes no sense for CR to test it. When I was looking at pick-up last year I could not find a single V-6 F150 (or Tundra for that matter). I assume you have to special order one. Seems like a truck for a parts delivery company who is not hauling much. It doesn't even have a fuel economy advantage over the 4.6L V-8 and only 1 mpg advantage over the 5.4L. I am surprised you could even find one try. > CR probably tested the V8 F150 and the 4 cyl Camry. No surprise here, > they're idiots. They tested the most popular version of each. More than 60% of all Camrys are sold with 4 cylinders. Why does testing what people actually buy make them idiots? Ed |

Kind of an extension of the 50's/60's custom car scene, except instead of '49 Mercs and Loewy coupes they're now cutting up old pickups. Dunno why... *shrugs* As for visibility, most older cars can be safely chopped a couple inches at least without the driver ever noticing. nate |

Ah, by this retarded logic, it's legal to rob a bank, if you ask them for the money. -- "Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law? Or is there one system for the average citizen and another for the high and mighty?" ~ Senator Ted Kennedy, 1973 --- When asked if Sentator Kennedy would consider a Presidential Nomination for the next election, Ted responded by stating "I'll drive off that bridge when I come to it." --- Kennedy to Search Iraqi Rivers for WMD by Scott Ott (2003-01-21) -- Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, D-MA, offered to help the U.N. weapons inspectors by personally searching the bottoms of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers for canisters of gas or biological agents. The Senator, who had some experience diving on a submerged metal object in 1969, said, "Each citizen must do what he can to support the effort to disarm Saddam. I'm going to see if I can get to the bottom of this thing...as it were. I'm hoping to come up with something...uh...again, as it were." Sen. Kennedy declined to discuss the specifics of his previous diving experience. --- NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana --- Ted Kennedy announced today that he will lead a team of SCUBA divers to search for any survivors who might be left from the Katrina aftermath. "I have unique experience in this area," said Kennedy. "We will try and try to dive down and find survivors beneath the flood waters. We will do everything possible. We cannot fail. We must not." A reporter mentioned to Kennedy that surely there would be no survivors under the flood waters at this point in time. "It wasn't safe," said Kennedy. "How could we dive to find survivors when it wasn't safe? The important thing is that I tried. I did everything I could to dive down and find survivors." |
