Default Thermostat/Water pump - 92 Mazda 929

Installed new water pump. Reading shows hot. No indication car is running
hot. Could it be the thermostat? Fluid apparently not getting to where it
should go?

Don't know much about the 929, but suspect that you need to get the air out
of the cooling system. Perhaps one of the other posters knows how to do
that. If not, you can Google for a solution how to refill the coolant
in a 929.
