Default Problem with central locking on A6

Hi there

I have a slightly wierd problem with my 2001 A6 2.5TDI saloon

I went to open it with key fob and did one click for the driver door then
two to open the passenger doors as normal.

It did this ok and then it started opening all the windows on its own 1 inch
at a time, similar to as if the key fob button was kept pressed down but the
windows go down in one smooth motion, this was jolty and stop\start motion
until all windows opened.

I went and got my spare fob and the same thing happened again. Also the
doors locks keep clicking open as if they are being opened with continuos
button pressing of the fob. I managed to lock the car evetually with a bit
of trouble but am worried in case it happens again and the windows open and
sods law it will fill up with rain or car thieves.!!!!!

Anybody have any ideas where io should start looking. Not very car technical
so english explanations would be ideal !

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Thanks in Anticipation

Did you have both key fobs with you after you got your spare?

If so you may have had a stuck contact in the first one that was still stuck
when you got the other one and the first one continued to cause the problem.

Other than that, if the battery in the car is low it can cause unusual things.

Beyond that you will need to check with the Audi dealer or a good Audi
independent with the software to pull the error codes.

I completely hid the first fob in case it was still transmitting on the
other side of the house

Default Problem with central locking on A6

I had exactly the same thing happen on a 98 A6. The Audi dealer fixed
it by replacing the locking control module. About $750 parts and labor.

TonyJ made a good observation which I completely missed, doh.

Anyway, there are "known" issues regarding windows opening of
their own accord. The problem seems to stem from the
"Convenience Module". Again, as TonyJ rightly states, you will
need to get the error codes; either from (most expensive to least
expensive ;-) ) a main Audi (or any VAG, such as VW, Seat, Skoda)
stealer, or an inde VAG specialist, or any reputable inde
workshop (ideally a Bosch approved garage), or finally any one
with VAG-COM on a laptop.

Garages who use "generic" fault code readers, such as Snap-On, or
Sykes-Pickavant, will only be able to read and clear the fault
codes; whereas the VAG specific ones, including VAG-COM will be
able to re-adapt any errant settings in any of the modules.

Default Problem with central locking on A6

I dont know is this the same problem. But,
My four year old A6 was all window opened this morning. And yesterday I'm
sure there were clossed. Today I've made testing with remote door
controller. Continuously just shortly press, open, close, open, and so on.
Suddenly, all windows went down!. Without long pressing open-button.
Has anybody notice the same function?

Yes, it is the same problem. That was one of the symptoms that I saw.
In fact, that was how I first found out by coming to my car and seeing
the windows part way down.

Disable the "total closure" option.

I had exactly this problem two weeks ago, and fixed it by replacing
the door lock mechanism in the driver's door. Takes about half-an-hour
to replace, not including the 15 minutes spent swearing as you skin
your knuckles whilst trying to reattach fiddly bits inside the door.
The part number (at least here in the UK) is 4B2837016G, and a UK
dealer will want £97.53 + VAT from you for it. If you still have the
problem, let me know and I'll see if I can come up with some
instructions on how to do the replacement.

It's nothing to do with "total closure" - but, like I said in an
earlier post, the "Convenience Module". VAG-COM, or a stealer
VAS5052 are your only friends in this instance.
