Default Bose 4 Speaker Stereo - Static and Volume control

Are there any Miata owners that have the high-end, Bose stereo (2-Din,
with Cassette in middle section) and is experiencing blown speaker
systems? I just bought a beautiful, British Racing Green, 1999 Miata
and it is great excep the stereo. The sound is terrible and the volume
control is almost worthless. Any discussion / help on this is greatly
appreciated.

They were somewhat moisture sensitive. This coupled with noise in the volume
control seems to indicate that the car was quite damp for some amount of
time. I believe a speaker company makes replacements (not cheap) that sounjd
better.
I'd suggest that you go to miata.net and poke around in the appropriate
section or search.

The door speakers can be damaged by playing the radio at maximum volume. I
had to replace one of the speakers on my 1999. I chose to install an
original equipment speaker rather than replacing both with matching
replacements. The speakers from Mazda are about $170 each.

The problem is that the Bose speakers are much lower in impedence than the
standard "OEM" speakers.

Actually, the Bose speakers do not have a "much lower" impedance. Some of
the readily available information on these speakers is incorrect. A search
on this usegroup will turn up my previous discourse on this subject.

Then why do the standard OEM speakers produce a lower volume?
Actually, lower impedence speakers make sense from the power standpoint, and
the fact that it simplifies (read less expensive) the boise amps design. If
you are going to replace the speakers with the standard OEM speakers,
something will need to be done with the boise amps. The amp differential
inputs introduce another complication.
I would like to see an impedence vs freq. sweep of the boise speakers
mounted in the door. Things are not always as they seem.
