1996 Dodge Grand Caravan - Air Bag light on - not clock spring
My air bag light came on and according to the dealer, its not related to
the clock spring. The clock spring just got replaced and the light remained on. They said they can diagnose it but I deferred it for later. Anyone know what might be the cause??? |

Our 98 did this since the wire is barely long enough. It is located inside the cowling behind the ignition switch. Chas |

Thanks, Chas. Did you do it yourself? How did you figure out that it got
unplugged? My van has about 144,000 miles now. Was yours up this high when the air bag light came on? Mine rides really well. I do my own maintenance (oil change, brakes and sometimes strut and shock replacement). I recently brought it to the dealer for some recall work. One of them was the "fuel rail" that needed the gas tank to be lowered. In doing so, they had to pump out and put back some gas from my tank. The next day, the van started sputtering in the highway. It appears some bad gas was put back as I have been putting in "dry gas" and the problem is slowly going away. |

I have a 99 Caravan SE w/ approximately 117K on it. Every since I bought it
(@76K) if you use the tilt, airbag light comes on. I think it is definately a loose wire. I was told by the dealer that it had something to do with the horn spring (you call the clock spring). Well, the only problem I have it now is when I have it serviced, because they keep on moving the steering wheel all the way up, and I need it all the way down (I have a tall frame at 5'10.5", but I have a short body). The problem seems to go away after a while. I agree with the rest of the posts here, take a look at the wiring harness. I wonder if Dodge did any kind of Recall on this problem. It seems dangerous if a lot of people have this problem. Tony,
If it is the clock spring, Dodge will fix it for free. They did my '98 last year. Remember while the airbag light is on the airbag will not operate.
