73 pushrod tubes
when I pulled the engine, I found red silicone
on all pushrod tube o-rings. Red silicone between barrels and the case. Is this standard procedure on these engines? 1700cc 1972 bus. Jen |

No this is NOT standard procedure...well maybe it is.....I see it on
done quite often. But its not PROPER procedure. Get the high quality viton seals and the silicone is definitely unecessary. |

The manual I have doesn't go into detail about
removal/reinstallation of push rod tubes. I read on the net that you slide the tubes through the head, and into the case... Is this correct? I can put the heads on first, then the tubes? Jen |

That is correct. The heads go on. Then you slide the tubes in with the
new seals. Be sure to make sure there are no burrs to tear your seals and lubricate the seasl slightly...again so they slide home withoput tearing. The spring clip holds them in place. |

The reason people resort to silicone is because this is a extremely
notorious spot for oil leaks. Typically available seals warp easily. Gary is right. Spend a little more for the good ones. > wrote in message oups.com... > when I pulled the engine, I found red silicone > on all pushrod tube o-rings.
