Somewhat OT for Scott: "geezer" lands plane on road
Via fark.com http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...250632,00.html A pensioner attempting to land a plane mistook a road for the runway, an accident report says. He only noticed his mistake when he hit a speed bump. The pilot believed he had found the landing strip despite noticing "a kerb to the side and lamp posts to his left", the report continues. The 68-year-old, who has not been named, was an experienced private pilot who had clocked up more than 1,000 hours in the air over the years. |

Sounds like he could have used a GPS navigational aid. Graham |

I don't know about UK small craft laws, but the FAA would ground this guy for sure after an incident like this. That's why so few of these events occur. I have an audio recording of an air traffic controller trying to give directions to a guy in a small plane. The pilot didn't sound like he was a geezer, but boy was he confused, adh te ATC guy was ****ED OFF. |
