Well, unless I'm in the rightmost lane, and then only if I've (gasp) "enabled" a merger who was positionally ahead of me in the merge lane--instead of the SOP of MFFY drivers that floor it and near-miss pass the merging driver just as the merge lane is ending. Plus, I almost always follow at least 3 seconds behind the car in front of me. And if traffic slows and I find that a late braker is following behind me--as shown by their front end dipping sharply and/or their headlights are almost lost below my rear windshield--I increase the following distance to six seconds. |
