Default 1987 325i bmw door lock problem

car worked fine until this morning could not unlock drivers door with key now
using both outsde and inside handle got door open now locks not working and
door will not close 1987 325i

If the door does not close, it is probably because the Y-shaped safety lock
is not in the correct position. Can you move it with your finger? Does it
move freely? Is the plastic cap missing from it? If you move it into the
other position, does the door close properly?

When those locks get old there are a bunch of things that can go wrong with
them, but they are not terribly difficult to replace or to repair.
