This is really annoying!

I've had my 156 1.9jtd for 2 years, 36k on it when I bought it, now 84k, and
in
all that time it has done between 40 - 45mpg (9 or 10 miles per litre!)

To be fair Rob, most of my journeys are quite long and relatively traffic
free.
On the road to work, 25 miles, I rarely exceed 70 mph, mostly I'm in 6th at
about 60-65. I'm light on the brakes too, the pads were on it when I got it,
I've done 32k and they still have loads of meat left on them. I also use
Redex.
I don't hang about for all that though, enjoying the low down torque and
acceleration
whenever possible!

The low down torque and acceleration is the thing I *miss* from the 156 2.0
JTS petrol. The diesel is very unforgiving on gears - your are either in the
right one, or there is NO power. With the petrol, I got used to being lazy -
leave it in top gear down to around 25mph, maybe less!

That's impressive for a petrol engine! Mind, I expect to have to keep an eye
on my gears
in a sports saloon. Part of the fun!
