Where Can I get A group 42 Battery for a 1973 Beetle?

I was just going to measure the dimensions of mine and get one the
same size with the ridge at the bottom for the clamp and use rubber
cable end protectors and a rubber mat on top if I could not find a
group 42 battery.

Does anyone have a particular brand that they think is the best?

I think one is pretty much the same as another. Years ago some mechanic
told me that there are just a few battery manufacturers in the US, and
they put different names on identical batteries.

(notice that a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle has been chosen) You wanna get one
like the one in the illustration, with the white terminal protector.
That way, if some really heavy person sits on your back seat directly
above the battery then the springs in the bottom of the seat won't come
into contact with the terminal and cause a spark to ignite the seat's
horsehair stuffing.

O'Reilly prices in their current ad (4 pages) are $70 to $85.

Same deal at Pep Boys. Their batteries start at $70 + $12 core charge.

The more CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) the better, though I don't know if you
get a choice with the group 42.
