Default 147 Service Reset

There is no official Alfa Dealership in Cardiff at present. My 147 is out of
warranty And my local garage has serviced many Alfas inc: belt changes on
156 and 145's but not a 147. No problem doing the work, he is an excellent
mechanic, but does anyone know if the Service Mileage can be reset without
going to an Alfa Dealer/Specialist?

I asked a similar question about my 156 and the general consensus was that
there shouldn't be a problem. Why not just ask them before taking the car
in?

Tried 3 garages who said they thought they could. No joy. All their
machines, 4 in total, said Dealer Reset only and this was confirmed by Alfa
UK. Checking with the Dealership in Swansea, £50 + vat.
Found out the former dealership in Cardiff, Victoria Park Motors, still have
equipment and can do it for £25 inc.

That sounds like anti-competitive behaviour to me.

That definitely sounds like anti-competitive behaviour! I'd be tempted
to ask for advice on the matter..Trading Standards, maybe the DTI??
Sounds like a *very* good reason for not buying a newer Alfa.

Thing is, in my 147 you don't get any service nags - you have to select it
to see when the next one is due (I just open the service schedule bookelt
myself!)

My Service Mileage hasn't got to zero yet as I have the car serviced
annually and my mileage has never exceeded the 12,500 the counter is reset
too. So you're saying, Cupra, that there are no nag prompts on the digital
screen or flashing warning lights?
If that is so then that's fine.

I haven't experienced anything on my '04 model over the last 36k miles since
I started getting it serviced by the local garage.... I'm pretty sure they
don't reset it (I'll check later!)

Just checked - 0 miles on service 'menu', 1500 real miles to next service
and no nags!

My 2002 156 (face-lifted interior) nags intermittantly for the last 1000
miles before a service. I guess it starts to shout after the interval has
passed, but I've never gone over, only close.

Be sure that you all talking about the same year / software version of the
control system in your 147s? There has been no mention of car ages so far...
