You might try one of the transmission degunking chemicals. Use involves
draining out the old fluid, replacing it, adding the chemicals, and refilling. Then, if the problem goes away, after a bit, you drain & replace with clean fluid. Last time I had to do this was on an older Olds, that was originally my grandmothers. It started accellerating to 30 mph from a dead stop without touching the gas pedal. Basically, the tranny fluid gets gunked up, and causes the valve body to malfunction. The chemicals disolve the gunk. This usually involves flushing and a filter > replacement which maybe all it needs. this is my experiance with auto trans in generall, but the first thing to do is just check the level of the fluid, and the color and smell of what is in there. if it is low then topping off the fluid may solve the shifting problem. a fluid/filter change cost me $130 at a mazda dealer in january 2007. you can probably have it done for less but there are so many scams out there done by express oil change places where they only suck the fluid out of the thing and pour new tranny fluid in that i didn't think it was worth saving possibly $50 and wondering if the filter was actually changed or not. and yes, there is discussion about changing out the tranny for a manual on miata.net... http://www.miata.net/garage/auto_2_5_speed.html |
