Verizon & Usenet (Bad news)
Sorry for the off-topic post, but I'm peeved. I just got word that Verizon
will stop carrying all Usenet newsgroups other than the "big 8"...a term which I hadn't even heard of before today! What does that mean? That means that in less than two weeks I won't be able to read or post to this newsgroup any longer. I hope no one minds a 3-group cross-post, but these are the only groups in the alt.* hierarchy I subscribe to. I only subscribe to two groups that I'll continue to be able to access. So...if you're a Verizon customer, here's your heads-up. Check the following link for more info: http://policyblog.verizon.com/Policy...p-Service.aspx Here's a tinyurl version of the above in case it doesn't work: http://tinyurl.com/5vvlos Please complain to Verizon...and loudly. I plan to do the same... Thanks, Wesley |

Many of us filter out any posts from Google Groups because of the amount of spam propagated. May I suggest looking at teranews:- http://www.teranews.com/ There is an initial very mall set-up charge and is totally free after that. I have it as a back-up to my normal usenet account. I haven't needed it very much but, on the occasions I have, it has proved reliable. -- Howard Neil |

Many folks have just eliminated that source, so any one legitimate that posts from that source is swept away in that bathwater. It might be like weeding - once the weeds get too prolific a major dose of Roundup to the whole area kills them all off, but kills off any good stuff too. I actually tried eliminating GG and then turned it back on as I missed too much that I wanted to see. Tomes |

Here's some good info for ya: http://improve-usenet.org/ -- "Bother!" said Pooh, as he garotted another passing Liberal. |
