Default VW passat glx engine temp

I would check to see if any cylinders are mis-firing. VR6's, when a spark plug or wire dies or melts, the cylinder it fires will stop running. The VR6 will run on 4 or sometimes 3 cylinders, but the engine will get very hot.. Takes it to a shop and have them inspect the plugs, wires, and coil pack..
