Default how useful is that spoiler on my 96 GT vert?

OK...
Today I backed into a tree and caused some damage to my rear spoiler.
I noticed when I open my trunk there are two *visible* screws in the trunk
lid that appear to be all that holds on the spoiler. Does anyone know if
that is true?
Next question: At what speeds do you think that spoiler is actually useful,
if any?
I'm really not tied to keeping that thing or replacing it.
Finally, if I remove those screws and the spoiler, what do I do about the
two holes? Ideas?
Thanks!

The spoiler probably starts to offer it's benefits at speeds above 140 mph
(it's window dressing, young fellow.... ). How on earth do you back into a
tree??? Somebody sneeak up and put it there when you weren't looking?

Sarcasm aside.... why not check the wreckers for a replacement spoiler?

If I recall correctly, I think i read that on a Cobra it actually lost a
couple MPH on the top end due to the spoiler. they took it off and gained 1
or 2 MPH. Google the archives.

Guess that explains why there isn't a spoiler on the M3.
