1959 Ford Galaxie hard top convertible - Colonial White over Indian Turquoise - fvr
I always wondered why they were called hard top convertibles since the top
was stationary --- unlike the Skyliner version which really was a hard top convertible. I guess it was to distinguish it from a regular coupe with a center post. -- Pat Durkin |

GM's first production hardtops for Buick, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile were
built on the convertible chassis that had additional X or K bracing to strengthen the frames to compensate for the loss of rigidity when the side posts and roof were gone. I suspect that this continued to be the case for the early hardtops from other makes as well, except, of course Nash and Hudson with their unit body construction. max "Paddy's Pig" > wrote in message ... >I always wondered why they were called hard top convertibles since the top > was stationary --- unlike the Skyliner version which really was a hard top > convertible. That's also why the 'real' early 60s Mopar drag cars were 2door posts. The
hardtops, especially the ones with the V-shaped c-pillar, wasted torque twisting the tub instead of launching. john "MagisterMax" > wrote in message news:7P1rj.4099$FO1.1019@edtnps82... > GM's first production hardtops for Buick, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile were > built on the convertible chassis that had additional X or K bracing to > strengthen the frames to compensate for the loss of rigidity when the side > posts and roof were gone.
