fitting additional amp and componemt speakers
Hi All
Just purchased my dedicated two channel amp and component speakers. I have never fitted before - any one got a guide and piccies? I do know what cables I need but assistance on routing cables from battery to boot and head unit to boot and doors would be great. Worth noting I got a 6 month old JL Audio and (RRP £400) and Focal Speakers, Tweater s, crossovers (RRP £265) for £140!! I have discovered the second hand market is rubbish - which is good for me ;-) |

The standard fit kit is perfectly servicable in a 156, all we've done in ours is to replace the standard fit cassette / radio with a CD head unit. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE - COSOC KOTL BOTAFOT #87 - BOTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC # |

Common mistake in car audio circles. A car is a less than ideal listening environment, hence if the standard kit is acceptable, it's really not worth ripping out to 'upgrade'. Most executive class cars come with a half decent install these days - it's not the early 90s where they all fitted paper cone speakers and the cheapest head unit they could get their hands on. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE - COSOC KOTL BOTAFOT #87 - BOTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC # |

If you look at the components I have bought/selected they are "audiophile" components and are designed for sound quality and not volume or BASS. Not my kind of thing. My other main hobby apart from the Alfa is home audio where I have a good understanding of components and sound. I do agree you will never get "perfect" sound from a car but there are ways where you can make an effort. And the speakers in the MK 1 156 are poor. Remember as well the amp is the most important thing. A low power amp (head unit) will blow speakers more easily than a dedicated amp with stags of juice ,, even at low volumes. All to do with clipping etc etc. Any way. Must get started on the install. If you live in my area pop round. I'd love to prove you wrong! ;-) |

Remember as well the amp is the most important > thing. IMHO in a car 2 things are important. 1. The quality of the speakers (as in a home set; spend 50% on the speakers and 50% on the rest) 2. Equalizing the set in car. All "normal" amps will do provided they have sufficient power so they don't have to work over 80% (harmonic distortions) Equalizing the set is a hughe job to get it right. Should it sound o.k. standing still with engine not running or at top speed with windows open ?????? I have a GT with the Alfa/Bose set which has been equalized ex-factory; certainly not a very high volume set, but sounds quite alright in many circunstances. And, the best sound in an Alfa is the engine, so why bother........... -- Ciao from The Netherlands alfistagj (aka Gert-Jan) GT 2.0 JTS (2005) Montreal 2.6V8 (1428700 - 1973/4) |

fitting additional amp and componemt speakers
I just spent the weekend replacing the stereo system in my 156,
including amp and sub in the boot and amping and replacing all speakers. For the record the 2002 156 does have paper cones and thats with the upgraded sound system. Head units not real flash either, but looks nice with the red lights.. so im leaving it. I've installed a lot of stereos in my time and this was by far the most elaborate, difficult and costly yet. Alfa strikes again! |
