Default Remembering the French on Independence Day weekend

Hi Viatologists,

Had it not been for French involvement in the Revolutionary War, the
United States could have remained a British subject today! Before the
4th of July celebrations begin, let's remember the country that
secured the U.S. its freedom from European administration, including
the remembrance gift known as the Statue of Liberty, by taking a look
at the roads that connect everything from Paris to Annècy to Nice:

http://wwtl.info/#photographs-france.html

These photographs, taken in the French Alps, include glimpses of
autoroute, department, and communce routes. English translations are
available too!

That all said, Happy Independence Day weekend to all U.S.-based
viatologists! Et merci les français pour leur liberté!

Ciao,

Carl Rogers

If you really want to see some great French roads, starting tomorrow
on Stage 3 of the Tour de France coverage on Versus, you'll get your
fill.

Largely C and D routes, don't ever recall them using B routes but you
occasionally see them go through an interchange or over/under an A
route.

Tomorrow (6 July) you'll see some of the oldest roads still in use,
those covering the tour are calling tomorrows stage 'The Cobblestones'
because of these sections.

<sigh>

A = Autoroute - primary route, usually toll.
N = Nationale - trunk route, funded by national government
D = Departement - regional route, funded by the departement
C = Commune - minor local route, funded by the commune
